Teaching is a diverse profession that involves working with students to help them obtain certain knowledge or master specific tasks. Every state requires that public school teachers be licensed by completing education requirements and passing examinations.
A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for licensure. Elementary teachers hold bachelor's degrees in education, while high school teachers have degrees in a subject area. Special education teachers may major in special education or in a content area with a minor in special education. In some states, teachers must go on to earn master's degrees after obtaining licensure.
Teacher education refers to the policies and procedures designed to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school and wider community.
Although ideally it should be conceived of, and organized as, a seamless continuum, teacher education is often divided into these stages listed below
Initial teacher training / education (a pre-service course before entering the classroom as a fully responsible teacher);
Induction (the process of providing training and support during the first few years of teaching or the first year in a particular school);
Teacher development or continuing professional development (CPD) (an in-service process for practicing teachers)
Physical education (PE) teachers train students to achieve and maintain optimum health and physical fitness by engaging in physical education activities and school-sponsored athletic programs. PE teachers may also teach health education classes, coach school sports teams and advise schools about physical fitness curriculum.
