The discipline of performing arts is generally defined as a combination of drama, music and dance practices. Majoring in performing arts as opposed to majoring in a single one of these three disciplines involves study that integrates these overlapping interests. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Performing Arts, for example, is a general degree program which may require students to gain integrated skills in drama, music and dance, or may allow for a concentration in one of the three.

Band manager is a flexible term that encompasses duties from promoting and booking a band to negotiating its contracts. As a rule of thumb, the less established a band is the more jobs its band manager will perform. An unsigned band's manager may carry out all necessary marketing tasks and media pitches, act as an accountant, social secretary and press agent, and serve as transportation supervisor, if necessary. Management of a signed band usually focuses more on contract negotiation and tour booking, along with overseeing accounting, road crew and other ancillary band personnel.
Cartoon artists work in various settings and for almost every type of media outlet. Some cartoon artists work as regular contributors to newspapers and magazines, while others produce commissioned projects or provide seasonal contributions, such as political cartoons during the elections. Artistic talent is usually preferred over formal training, although some employers require artists to hold an undergraduate degree. 
Performing arts can encompass acting, dancing, singing or a variety of music careers. Performance artists often have professional training or schooling, but it is not mandatory to enter the field. A career in performing arts can provide for a flexible schedule and a wide variety of employment options.
