St. Lawrence University was launched by the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on 14th October, 2006 and was licensed by National Council for Higher Education on 6th July, 2007.
This University is the first of its kind in the East African region because Entrepreneurship and ICT are a compulsory component for all courses offered in every faculty. This emphasis is to groom generations of practical and globally oriented job creators in all sectors of society. The University is unique because it produces entrepreneurs as well as emphasizing financial education, youth, women and general personal empowerment in order for its graduates to be versatile, globally exposed (through travelling abroad in the University's exchange programmes) and who will answer the usually disturbing question of "After University what next?"
The University is internationally recognised through its collaboration with the University of Pacific and University of Tulane in the United States of America .This collaboration will encourage the staff and students of the three universities to participate in exchange programmes.
